Beware of Fake Facebook Technical Support, Customer Service or Helpline Telephone Numbers

Facebook currently doesn't provide technical support or customer service via telephone. Nor do they provide a telephone helpdesk or helpline. So, if you see telephone numbers posted on social media websites, in forums, in chat rooms, in email messages, or elsewhere, by someone claiming they are Facebook Technical Support, Customer Service, Helpdesk, or Helpline numbers, please do not call the telephone numbers and follow the instructions given by the person or automated system that answers the call. The fake Facebook telephone numbers were set up by cyber-criminals to steal Facebook users’ personal information and account information, by pretending to be Facebook support representatives and instructing Facebook users to go to phishing websites or fake Facebook websites.

Please continue reading below.

Once on the phishing or fake websites, the fake Facebook representative will ask Facebook users to sign into their accounts. But, if the users attempt to sign in on the fake Facebook websites, their credentials (username and password) will be sent to the cyber-crooks, who will use it to gain access their victims' Facebook accounts. Once the cyber-crooks have gained access to their victims' Facebook accounts, they will hijack and use them fraudulently.

The cyber-crooks may also direct Facebook users to malicious websites and instruct to them to download malicious software that will infect their computers with viruses, Trojan horse, spyware and other malware.
