Google Listing Scam Calls - Beware

Google listing scam calls are fraudulent, often automated, calls claiming your business profile needs urgent verification, payment, or is suspended. Google does not make cold calls for listing updates, nor do they charge for basic listing services. Hang up immediately, do not pay, and never provide verification codes or personal information.

Identifying Scam Calls

  • Red Flags: Automated robots, threats to delete your listing, offers to improve ranking for a fee, and callers asking for passwords or payment.
  • Actual Google Calls: Google typically only calls if you have requested a support call, and they will not ask for payment or sensitive information.
  • Immediate Action: Hang up immediately. Do not press any buttons or engage, as it signals your number is active.
  • Report the Scam: Report the calls to the FTC.
  • Secure Your Listing: Ensure you have personally verified your business through the official, free Google Business Profile dashboard.
