LIME Jamaica - Watch Out For Scammers
Lime Jamaica has reported that scammers are calling persons from unidentified numbers, claiming that they can help them protect their computers from hackers, viruses and other malware. The scammers' aim is to obtain the victims’ personal information; such information includes their username, password, credit card number and other information that they can use to rip the victims off. If you receive such a call, please terminate it.
How the scam works?
The scammer calls the victim and pretends to help the victim protect their computer from hackers, viruses and other threats. The scammer will then ask the victim to go to a particular website and download a malicious software, which the scammer claims will protect the victim's computer.
Once the malicious software is downloaded and installed, the scammer will be able to gain access to the victim’s computer and steal their personal information.
If someone calls you claiming to represent a company, do not disclose your personal information or follow any instructions to download and install any software on your computer, instead call the company's customer service and verify the claims made by the caller.
