Royal Bank of Scotland RBS Morning Commentary Virus Email

Royal Bank of Scotland customers beware of a dangerous email message (see below) with a dangerous Trojan horse or virus attached. This Trojan or virus will infect your computer if you open the attachment. The email message claims that the recipient should unzip the attachment in order to view the Royal Bank of Scotland or RBS.co.uk morning commentary Adobe PDF document.

The attached file is in zip format; first you have to unzip it (self-extracting archive, Adobe PDF) and then it can be viewed in Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0 or above. If you do not have a copy of the software please contact your technical support department.

This malicious email message was not sent by the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS). It has an attachment with the name "Service Commentary.zip", which contains the malicious Trojan horse file “Service Commentary.exe”. Attempts to open this file will infect your computer with a Trojan horse or virus.

When we scanned the file "Service Commentary.exe", the following threats were detected:

Once your computer has become infected with this malicious Trojan horse, the cybercriminals behind this email message will be able to access and take control of your computer remotely from anywhere around the world. They may spy on you, use your computer to commit cybercrimes, or steal your personal and financial information.

Now, if you have already opened this malicious attachment “Service Commentary.exe”, please do a full scan of your computer with the antivirus software installed on it. The name of the attachment may change, so be careful when opening email attachments.
