Our Account Protection System Recently Detected an Issue - PayPal Phishing Scam

The email message below: "Our Account Protection System recently detected an issue with your account," which claims that PayPal security system has detected unusual activity on the credit card linked to the recipients' PayPal accounts, and they need to verify their information in order to remove the temporary limit on their accounts, is another attempt by cybercriminals to steal PayPal users' account information, personal and credit card information. The email message is a scam and was not sent by PayPal.

Dear Valued Customer,
Our Account Protection System recently detected an issue with your account.  There was an unusual activity on the credit card linked to your PayPal account. Our security team suspects that an unauthorized user tried to access your account without your consent.

Your account have been temporarily limited. We understand this may be frustrating and inconvenient for you.

What to do next:

Please download the attachment in this email and simply open it so that you are able to proceed with the verification process. Please fill in the required fields after you have opened the attachment.

We apologize for any inconvenience that may have been caused.

This phishing email has an attachment that contains a form that will open in your web browser. The form will ask you for your PayPal user name, password, personal and credit card information.

If you enter the information on the form, it will be sent to the scammers behind this phishing scam.

If you receive an email message like this, never click on the link or open the attachment in it.instead go directly to PayPal's website www.paypal.com in your web browser and sign into your account. If there are any account notification, PayPal will display it in your account.

PayPal will never ask you to confirm that you are the holder of an account by asking you to confirm your personal and credit card information.

Also, in email messages, PayPal will address you by your name and not by the following:

If you were tricked into sending these cybercriminals your PayPal user ID, password, personal and credit card information, please change your PayPal password and contact your bank immediately.
