Phishing Scam - Upgrade your Bigpond Account

The email message below: "Upgrade your Bigpond account," is a fake. The email message was not sent by Bigpond, but by cyber-criminals who created it to steal Bigpond's customers usernames, passwords and other sensitive information.

The Fake Bigpond Email Message

Subject: Upgrade your Bigpond account

Dear Bigpond.com User,

This message is from webmail.bigpond.com admin messaging center to all account owners. We are currently upgrading our database and email account center so we are cancelling unused and used BIGPOND.COM account to create more space for new accounts.

To prevent your account from closing you will have to update it below to know its status is active.to re-activate your account please click the link below

Note: Any account owner that refuses to update his/her account will loose his/her account permanently.

We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause you during this period.

Clicking on any of the links in the malicious email message above, will take you to a fake and malicious Bigpond website. The malicious website will then ask you to enter your Bigpond's username and password,which will be sent to the cyber-criminals behind this phishing scam.

Once these cyber-criminals have your BigPond user name and password, they will use it to hijack your account and use it to send spam or other malicious content to their potential victims.

If you have received a copy of this email message, please do not follow the instructions in it, instead, delete it.

Now, if you were already tricked into clicking on the link and submitting your information to the fake or phishing website that you were taken to, please change your Bigpond account password.
