Gumtree Scam - "For Security Purposes, Your Online Account has Been Locked"

The phishing email message below: "For security purposes, your online account has been locked," which was not sent by Gumtree, claims that the recipient's Gumtree account has been locked, is another attempt by cyber-criminals to steal Gumtree users' account usernames and passwords.

This phishing email has an attachment ( signin.Gumtree.co.uk-ws-Gumtree ISAPItemporarily. suspended.htm.zip ) that contains a form that will open in your web browser. The form will ask you for your Gumtree user name and password.

If you enter the information on the form, it will be sent to the scammers behind this phishing scam, who will use it to hijack your account and use it fraudulently.

If you receive an email message like this, never click on a link or open an attachment in it.instead go directly to Gumtree's website at www.gumtree.com in your web browser and sign into your account. If there are any account notification, Gumtree will display it in your account.

Gumtree will never ask you to download an attachment and enter your user name and password in order to verify your account.

If you were tricked into sending these cybercriminals your Gumtree user ID and password, please change your Gumtree password immediately.
