"There is a Warrant out for Your Arrest for Failing to Report for Grand Jury Duty"
Beware of Jury Duty scams that claim there is a warrant out for your arrest for failing to report for Grand Jury Duty, and the judge who issued the bench warrant was not aware that you did not receive the summons, so he issued a fine that you will have to pay when you get to the Sheriff's Office.
How the Scam Works
Someone pretending to be from the Sheriff's Department or a law enforcement officer will call you by name and verify your address. We do not know how the scammers were able to obtain their potential victims' information, but we are assuming that their potential victims were tricked into sending their information using some form of phishing scam.
The caller will then tell you that he/she has a warrant out for your arrest for failing to report for Grand Jury duty. And, because the judge that issued the bench warrant was not aware that you did not receive a summons, he issued a fine that you will have to be pay when you visit the Sheriff's Department.
The caller will continue to tell you that the Sheriff's Office is not allowed to take check or bank cards, so you will have to bring cash or a Money Order to pay the fine.
If you receive any phone calls about paying a fine, please call the relevant authorizes for information. Do not panic and hastily go and hand over your hard-earned money to scammers, simply because the caller knows your name, address and other information.
