IRS Tax Refund Scam Calls from Telephone Number 917-387-4929

Scammers are calling people from telephone number 1-917-387-4929, in an attempt to trick them in sending money by claiming that they need to go to the nearest police station or call a police officer who is working with the Federal Crime Enforcement, because they have a federal complaint filed in their names. The scammers may change the telephone number, so look out for similar message from other telephone numbers.

The Message from Scammers

"This is from Deputy Jones at NY State Police Department, you need to go immediately to the nearest police station or call Officer John Harris who is working with Federal Crime Enforcement. You have a federal complaint filed in your name. Call him at 646-934-8432. I repeat 646-934-8432. And have a blessed day."


How the Scam Works

If you receive any phone calls about paying a fine, please call the relevant authorizes for information. Do not panic and hastily go and hand over your hard-earned money to scammers, simply because the caller knows your name, address and other information.

People have reported receiving calls from 206-257-7084, to turn themselves into the police, or call a Sargent Harrison in New York regarding a complaint.
