5K Run Scam - "Color Mile 5k" or "Color 5 Mile"

The website "www.color5mile.com," which is promoting the 5-Mile run called "Color Mile 5k" or "Color 5 Mile" is a scam according to the Better Business Bureau, the Bangor Maine Police Department and other law enforcement agencies. The scam is taking place across the United States and people are be warned not to register for the bogus event, because the scammers will take their money and run. According to the Bangor Maine Police Department, there is no permit for the COLOR 5 Mile event, which the website claims will take place on June 27, 2015 in Bangor, Maine.

The Fake "Color 5 Mile" Website

Law enforcement agencies in other states have warned the public not to sign up for the fake event. The Better Business Bureau is asking people who have already signed up, to give them a call.

The City of Fayetteville has published the following information:

Color-5-Mile Race Is Not Permitted

(Fayetteville, N.C.) – The City of Fayetteville would like to let residents know that an advertised race will not be taking place on Saturday. The Color-5-Mile is not a permitted event by the City of Fayetteville and will not occur. Permits for such events are required and one was neither requested nor received for this event. Residents are encouraged to not sign-up for the event, which is advertised as starting at City Hall. The City of Fayetteville is not sponsoring, nor has it sanctioned the race.
