Haiti Hurricane Matthew Donation Scams
Scammers are currently taking advantage of generous people by sending out fraudulent email messages or making fraudulent social media posts claiming to be from legitimate charitable organizations or celebrities, asking for donations to help the people of Haiti who have been severely affected by Hurricane Matthew. The scammers know that after a disaster, people will generously make donations to help the people who are affected, so they send out e-mail messages and make posts on social networking websites asking for donations for the fraudulent charitable organizations that they have created overnight. Once monetary donations are made, the scammers will keep it.
The general public are asked to be careful when donating money and are asked to donate to reputable charitable organizations, because it important that the victims receive the donations, and not the scammers.
