What is Cybercrime and who is a Cybercriminal?
Cybercrime or Cyber crime, also called computer crime, is any illegal activity that involves a computer network, mobile device or computer, or in other words, crimes committed on the internet or other computer networks using computers or mobile devices. Some examples of cybercrime are: cyberstalking, telemarketing and Internet fraud, identity theft, credit card information thefts, computer hacking, piracy, spamming, phishing scam, and infecting computers or mobile devices with viruses, spyware, ransomware, Trojan horse and other malware.
The examples above are only a few of the thousands of crimes that are considered cybercrimes. While computers and the Internet have made our lives easier in many ways, it is unfortunate that people also use these technologies to take advantage of others. Therefore, it is smart to protect yourself by using antivirus software, be careful when opening email attachments, be careful of websites that you shop with online (only shop on popular or reputable websites), be careful where you download software or apps, and be careful of phishing websites that steal personal, financial and other sensitive information by impersonating legitimate websites.
