Spyware Disguised as NetFlix App Created by Cybercriminals
Online users are asked to be aware of spyware disguised as NetFlix apps. The fake and malicious NetFlix apps (spyware) can be used by cybercriminals to steal information, listening on conversations or take screenshots on an infected mobile device or Smartphone. The fake and malicious NetFlix apps (spyware) was built using the SpyNote RAT (Remote Access Trojan) builder or utility, and was discovered by the ThreatLabZ research team.
SpyNote RAT is capable of doing the following on an infected mobile device:
- activate the mobile device’s microphone and listen to live conversations
- execute commands on the mobile device
- copy files from the mobile device to a remote server, where the files can be access by cybercriminals
- record screenshots of the mobile users’ activities
- view contacts
- read SMS text messages
Android users are asked to only download apps from the Google Play Store. And, Android users who know or think they may have installed a malicious app by accident on their mobile devices, are asked to remove it, and then go to the Google Play Store and install the legitimate one.
Online users should also look out for fake and malicious apps that have been created by cybercriminals, disguised as the following:
- YouTube Video Downloader
- Google Update
- Hack Wifi
- AirDroid
- WifiHacker
- Photoshop
- SkyTV
- Hotstar
- Trump Dash
- PokemonGo
Netflix app allows online users to watch movies, TV shows and videos on their mobile devices.
