1-903-848-5979 - it is Being Used by Scammers
A couple of users have reported receiving text messages or SMS asking them to call 1-903-848-5979 to update their Bank of America profiles. But, 1-903-848-5979 is not a Bank of America number. And, even people who are not Bank of America customers are receiving the text messages (SMS). This means that the scammers are randomly sending out thousands of text messages to potential victims and hoping some Bank of America customers will receive and follow the instructions in them.
The scammers may also claim that 1-903-848-5979 is a technical support number. They may send out fake technical support email or display pop-up messages that claim there is something wrong with the recipients' computers or the recipients’ computers have been infected with a virus or malware in order to frighten them into calling the bogus technical support number for help.
But, once potential victims call the fake technical support telephone number (1-903-848-5979), a person or an automated Interactive Voice Response system will request their personal information, financial information, or online account credentials (usernames and passwords). If the requested information is entered, it will be sent to cybercriminals, who will use it to rip-off their victims.
It is important that online users know that Technical Support does not contact them to provide help. It is the other way around, they call Technical Support for help. Therefore, online users who receive messages claiming that they should call or contact a Technical Support in order to fix some errors, remove viruses or malware from their computers, should delete the messages and not follow the instructions in them.
Persons who have already called and submitted their financial and account information should contact their banks and change their online account passwords immediately.
