"AT&T Customer Notification" Malicious Email Messages

The email notification below, which claims that the recipients should click on the link in it to view their AT&T statement is a fake. The links in the fake email message will download a malicious Microsoft Word document. The malicious attachment contains a Macro virus or a set of malicious code instructions which, if open, will infect the recipients’ computers with a Trojan horse, spyware or other malware that will give cyber-criminals access to their computers. With full access to their victims’ computers, cyber-criminal will be able to spy on them, steal their files, personal information, financial information, usernames and passwords for their accounts, without the victims knowing. The cyber-criminals may also use their victims’ computers to commit other cybercrimes, which will be traced back to victims.

Therefore, AT&T customers who have received email messages asking them to open a Microsoft Word document and "Enable Editing" to view their bill should not do so.They should instead, go directly to directly to https://www.att.com view their bills.

Recipients who were tricked into opening the malicious attachment should scan their computers with an antivirus or antimalware software to remove any virus, Trojan horse, spyware or other malware that may have infected their computers.
