"The New York Crime Laboratory Child Pornography" Extortion Scam
The fake "The New York Crime Laboratory Child Pornography" investigative email below is an extortion scam being sent to potential victims by online scammers. The fake email falsely claims the recipients have shared child pornography content, and then threaten the same recipients into sending money to a Bitcoin Wallet if they do not want the so-called child pornography content to be sent to the Montana State Police. The scammers hope the recipients will panic and send them the requested money without thinking.
This scam has been around for a few years; all the scammers do each year is change the content of the email message.
