Uber Code Text Scam Messages: Beware

The Uber code text scam or Uber SMiShing scam is a fake text message with a four-digit fake Uber code sent to potential victims telling them to reply with the word "STOP" to the phone number in the message. But, if they reply, they will be charged for the text because the telephone number is a premium-rate number.

Since Uber often sends out legitimate messages legitimately, it is hard to tell if a text message is a scam or not. Therefore, it is recommended to Google the number you were sent before texting anything back. And, if you are still doubtful, don't send the message because if it is a genuine Uber message, you will be able to identify it via the Uber app.

Premium-rate telephone numbers are telephone numbers for telephone calls or text messages during which certain services are provided, and for which prices higher than normal are charged. Unlike a normal call or text message, part of the call or text message charge is paid to the service provider, thus enabling businesses to be funded via the calls or text messages.
