Legal Enforcement Action Scam Call Transcript

"It is to inform you that there is a legal enforcement actions filed on your social security number for fraudulent activity so when you get this message, kindly call back at the earliest possible on our number before we begin with the legal proceedings... that is 540-595-0946, thank you"

If you receive a threatening phone call claiming that there‘s an issue with your Social Security number or benefits, it’s a scam. The Social Security Administration (SSA) will never threaten you with arrest or other legal action if you don’t immediately pay a fine or fee.

Social Security may call you in some situations but will never:

The real SSA will never call to threaten your benefits or tell you to wire money, send cash, or put money on gift cards. And, you can’t believe the numbers on your caller ID because scammers can easily fake those. But if you’re worried, call the real SSA at 1-800-772-1213. You can trust that number if you dial it yourself – just not on your caller ID.

Also, never give your SSN, credit card or bank account number to anyone who contacts you. Ever.
