Hi Mum Scam on Whatsapp - I Got a New Number and Phone - Make Payment

Scammers are sending the unsolicited WhatsApp "Hi Mum" message below to their potential victims pretending to be their children. In the fake message, the scammers pretend to be their potential victims' children and claim they have changed their telephone numbers and have gotten a new phone. They then claim the banking app on their new phone has been blocked for 48 hours and ask their potential victims, while pretending their children, if they could make payments and they will return the money as soon as possible.

The Hi Mum Whatsapp Scam Message

If you get messages like the one above, the first thing you should do is call your child using the telephone number you have for him/her and confirm whether the message is true or not. If you are unable to get your child using the telephone number you have, tell the WhatsApp user to give you a telephone number that you can contact him/her at. If they refuse, it is a scam.

Never rush to send money after receiving a suspicious message or call. It is always important to calmly investigate or research the matter first.
