Amazon Scam Phone Call - Press 1

While some departments at Amazon will make outbound calls to customers, Amazon will never ask you to disclose or verify sensitive personal information or offer you a refund you do not expect. Amazon recommends that you report any suspicious or fraudulent correspondence.

How the Scam Works

Potential victims receive a fake Amazon automated call. The caller claims an unauthorized payment was made on the potential victims' account and ask them to “press one” if they wish to cancel the payment. But, if the potential victims follow the instructions, they will be sent to fake customer support or service agent, who will attempt to trick them into disclosing personal and financia information. They may also be asked to give the scammers remote access to their computers, which Amazon will never ask their customers to do.

How to Protect Yourself

Do not press anything or follow the callers' instructions, just contact Amazon and report it.
