How to Track a Xiaomi Phone

Xiaomi is a brand which is coming further and further into the mainstream. Whether that be with action cameras, smartphones or TVs, the Beijing-based brand founded in 2010 has come to rival some of the largest affordable consumer electronics producers out there.

But with new tech and new ecosystems comes a lot of new applications. And there’s one that tops them all, especially when it comes to smartphones.

That is, of course, how to locate your smartphone when it goes missing.

Whether it be stolen, left at work or lost down the side of a sofa, finding popular phones, like iPhones, is a breeze with features like “Find my iPhone”. And fortunately for us, Xiaomi have made it just as easy to locate any of your compatible Xiaomi devices with the Mi Cloud.

Meaning that locating your device is never more than a few clicks away.

Finding the Mi Cloud

Before you can locate any device, it’s important that the “find device” setting is checked on.

This can be located within Settings Mi Account Mi Cloud, where you can then activate Find Device for your given device. This will allow you to track this device when logged into the same Mi account.

Of course, this cannot be done with devices after they have been lost. So it is paramount you set this feature on early if you want to ensure you can find your Xiaomi device in the future.

Locating a Lost Device

Finding a device with the “find device” setting on is a walk in the park.

Simply head over to the i.mi.com site and log in with your Mi account that is associated with that device.

It's worth noting that this site is currently only supported in Chinese language, but utilising browser auto-translation make it accessible for speakers of any language, albeit with a few translation errors here and there.

When on this site, the rightmost label, which looks like a map pin, will take you to the “Find Device” page, allowing you to locate your device through internet and/or GPS, showing its location on either Google Maps of BaiDu.

Controlling Your Device Remotely

Now that you know where your device is, it’s worth knowing there are a number of other features the “Find Device” section can provide you with. These become especially important if your device has been lost or stolen.

On the same page as listed in the previous step, you’ll be given a small image of your phone in the top right, and be provided with four options. Where you can:

Although this last step is extreme, it is incredibly important for securing your information in the instance of theft or loss.

Alternative Method: Google Account

Xiaomi smartphones are built on Google’s Android operating system, which brings some useful Android features to the Mi phone. This presents a second way to find your phone. That is using your Google Account in tandem with Google Maps.

To activate this, you must sign into your Google Account on the given Mi device, linking it to your account.

In turn unlocking the ability to use internet and GPS to track your device via your google account through google.com/android/devicemanager.

This service also allows for the same features as the Mi’s native “Find Device” feature, allowing you to track, ring, lock and lock your device, or wipe the personal data from your phone.

In sum, Xiaomi’s devices offer two robust options for tracking your phone and removing personal data in the event of theft or loss. Meaning that you can rest easy that your device will be easy to locate, provided you set up the native “find device” or alternative Google Device Manager when you first get your device.

If all of this talk of theft and loss is getting you stressed, simply set up “find device”, take a comfy seat and throw on your favourite game. And while you’re at it, get ahead by logging into ElDorado and adding some extra gold and items such as Growtopia Locks or Lost Ark Gold to your account. Whether you’re into Overwatch, World of Warcraft or Old School RuneScape, ElDorado is the one-stop-shop for everything you need to beat out the competition and enjoy your favourite games to the max.
