AHN Text Alerts Scam and Fraudulent Allegheny Health Network Message

AHN(Allegheny Health Network) is asking the public to be aware of fraudulent text alert scam messages with links to fake AHN websites. The fake websites steal personal information, may ask visitors to download a malicious app, or instruct them to call fake AHN telephone numbers. Therefore, recipients of suspicious AHN text alert messages are asked to forward them to Allegheny Health Network's cybersecurity team at cybersecurity@ahn.org.

Allegheny Health Network Data Breach

On May 31 and June 1, 2022, Allegheny Health Network experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its system may have been accessed. Allegheny Health Network’s investigation is ongoing, and the full extent of the investigation is pending. According to an Allegheny Health Network spokesperson, the type of information exposed includes:

When the breach was discovered, AHN shut down the compromised mailbox, used preventative and monitoring controls, implemented network blocking, reset passwords and reached out to the contracted email provider for assistance. AHN also is working with another firm to determine the full scope of the data breach, the company said.

The Allegheny Health Network said all patients who were affected received a notification in the mail.
