MACU Scam Text Alert - Hold on Online Checking Account
The Mountain America Credit Union (MACU) scam text alert below, which claims the recipient's online checking account is on hold due to a recent transaction, is being sent by scammers. The aim of the scammers is to trick their potential victims into clicking the link in the fake text message. The link goes to a phishing website that steals account credentials, personal and financial information.
The MACU Scam Text Alert
To protect yourself and others against phishing and other cybersecurity attacks, consider these security measures:
- Mountain America will never contact you and ask you to provide your online banking password, codeword or six-digit code. Don’t respond to emails or text messages that request personal information. If you have any doubt, call our service center at 1-800-748-4302.
- If you receive a suspicious email claiming to be from Mountain America, forward it as an attachment to phishing@macu.com. Learn how to spot a phishing email.
- If you opened a questionable link and shared your login credentials, codeword, PIN or other sensitive information, please call the service center at 1-800-748-4302.
- Change your password using a complex password—a mixture of capital and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols. Make sure it’s at least eight characters long. Never reuse a password.
- Monitor your accounts using our free alerts and notifications.
- If you see any suspicious transactions, immediately contact the service center at 1-800-748-4302 or visit your nearest branch.
