Apple has patented the technology to transmit or send an encoded signal to their wireless devices like the IPhone and IPad, which will remotely command those devices to disable certain functionalities like picture-taking, Wi-Fi connectivity and video recording. With this technology, the government, police or others will be able to determine what features or functionalities of your mobile device you can use in a particular area.
So, if the government, police or others decide to prevent persons from recording a video of a riot, all they have to do is to send a signal to disable all those persons’ mobile devices recording features in that particular area, where the riot is currently taking place.
This technology will use the GPS receiver built into the mobile device or mobile base-stations to determine where the device is located and if that location is deemed “sensitive”, some features or functionalities of the wireless device will be disabled.
Apple says this technology is intended to be used to prevent interruptions at the movies, religious ceremonies, weddings, funerals, academic lectures, and test-taking environments and other social gathering.
Yes, Apple has good intentions for this type of technology, but it can be abused by the government, police or others.
Image a policeman brutally beating someone and you want to take a photo or video of it to show to the world, but you are not able to, because that area is deemed a no-videoing, no-photo-taking or sensitive area.
