The scammers will ask you to send money via Western Union, Moneygram, Prepaid debit, iTunes Card, or ask you for your credit card information, which they claim they will need for the payment of the processing fee, taxes or delivery fee.

Same recording: one day from Georgia, next day from Colorado. Why would a recording "call" a stranger? There's a special place in h**l for these losers. It goes to voice mail, then I dump it.

I received a call yesterday from a woman quoting an 8700 dollar grant and today's call was for a 7000 dollar grant. When I repeated over and over, "I'll take that in a cashier's check" they hung up. Kept him on the phone asking questions so that he would lose time. He just kept reading a script, repeating what he had already said. Can be quite entertaining if you don't fall for it.

  • April 7, 2017 at 3:55 PM by an anonymous user from: Houston, Texas, United States

Received a government grant scam call today from 202-863-4336. Man with a foreign accent, perhaps Filipino, calls me around 3:00 pm (about 20 minutes ago) from this number and proceeds to nervously read from a script as he tells me that I am the lucky recipient of a grant from the U.S. government in the amount of $9000, and that my number was chosen at random, . I just kept listening to him fumble with his words for about 30 seconds or so. Suddenly he stopped talking about the grant I was supposed to receive, and now he suddenly starts saying "F*ck you, f*ck you, f*ck you", and needless to say, it shocked the h**l out of me. I hung up. While I was writing this he actually called my number again. I have placed this number on my blocked numbers now. Unbelievable. I would love to see this guy be prosecuted for conducting such a call with such behavior.

Please be aware of this scam and the phone number that showed up on my phone I.D. Thank you.

  • February 2, 2017 at 4:49 PM by an anonymous user from: Dallas, Texas, United States

I know this post is a few years old but I googled it because I just got a call like this. The guy sounded like he was foreign but had been living in the states for a while so the accent was slight. The call was from a private number and he stated he didn't have any information about how much it cost as he was just providing the initial information and would connect me to someone else if I were interested. The whole thing was weird and obviously a scam. Since when is the government awarding hard working people like myself?!

Claimed they called from Federal Grant Office, with free grants in thousands waiting for me. I knew it was scam. They would not give Federal Employee IDs when I asked them to provide. I yelled and cursed at them and told them to stop doing it. Also told them I would report them and have them hunt down. Well, They called to my mobile number and knew my First and Last name. This part scares me. How do they get my cell number and full name?

  • June 23, 2016 at 12:54 PM by an anonymous user from: Los Angeles, California, United States

Received private call stating that I was selected out of 1500 people to receive 7k. I asked him who or how my name and number were selected. He became pushy when I kept asking him to repeat himself. First of all I've worked for the gov't in the Army so I doubt they knew I could smell BS. I Then told him to give it to someone who needs it most.

This M**O tells me, well you can revive it and give it to someone. So with all these reasons, I told him it felt like a scam and wasn't interested and to delete my name from further "gov't grants". These fools think their smart, ha. Its been proven that in the Army, the Infantry has the highest test scores to be an infantryman, because you have to problem solve on the spot read people and anticipate the enemy's movement in order to complete the mission.

She ask me where do I want my money to be sent: bank, card or MoneyGram, so I choose MoneyGram, then she gave me this number to call back: 239-244-2351. First I Google the number for a scam and it came back that the area code is from Florida. Coincidentally she called me back so I told her that the area code you give me is from Florida, then she said blah blah blah, I'm not gonna force you,and she hurriedly wanna end our conversation.

Just right I told her that I'm calling, you know so. I did call her from my work phone but I got no answer. The scary part is that she knows all my info like name, address, and cell#. Just be careful guys.

I have been receiving daily phone calls from these people, the first grant was for $7,000 dollars and had to be paid within 24 hours after I said I had no credit cards and would have to buy one at the store.

Second time I had them talk to my husband and he asked for their address, who would be issuing the checks. They hung up.

This time the amount has gone up to $9,000 grant approved with a #GG2244 and a telephone # to call (202) 738-1502 and to have my Credit Acct or Bank Checking Acct. reading.

I got a call from someone and she gave me a code CA231, she was Indian, she told me to call 240-580-9819 and talk with Sam Adam! I call Sam, he was Indian too and he told me to u can get $7,500 free money since u r a tax payer with no criminal record! He gave me a the Albertson address which has Moneygram and he told me to give him a call before getting to the store. He said I should pay $325 for registration so I do not have to pay any tax on 7500.

I was a little board so I played with him. I told him, no I like to pay tax so what should I do now? He said OK! Go pay the tax about 800 something and then give me a call. I asked him what is the exact amount which I need to pay for tax and he could not even do a math and give me the answer! He got nervous.

I asked, should I pay the tax to state or federal?! He panic! And then I asked, how can I pay tax over something that I have not even seen?

And he hanged up on me! Scammer!

  • May 13, 2015 at 4:11 PM by an anonymous user from: Blacksburg, Virginia, United States

I have received three calls from these people today. They speak with a very strong foreign accent and are hard to understand. Each time they tell me that I will be receiving $7000 from a Federal Grant from Washington DC.

They gave me an additional phone number (which I threw away) and a code to receive $7000. They say I have been chosen to receive this money because I have never filed bankruptcy.

The number they used was 222-222-2245 every time.

Clearly a scam, DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR INFORMATION. They asked me my age (I am 50), but I told them I was 115 years old, kind of threw them for a loop.

The man said no, no, no, your age. I said, oh I am 85. He said I sounded like I was in my "thirties". I told him I do well with my age, and he hung up!

    • December 3, 2015 at 1:24 PM by an anonymous user from: Ashburn, Virginia, United States

The same thing with me; grant 7k from DC, ask for my age I give her the wrong one, she gave me the reference number and telephone number to call back 239-244-2351. Did a research and found out that 239 area code is from Florida. LOL, 115 yrs old, good one.

I can confirm that the number is currently owned by someone offering free $7,000 Government Grants at 646-863-6068. I have heard about these $7,000 free government grant scams, but this is the first time they have called me. They trick people into paying a $230 fee via Western Union to get access to the money. Greed has blinded many people and I hope it doesn't happen to you. Please report the number they used to call you and the number they give you to call to the FTC @ 1-888-382-1222.

  • April 28, 2015 at 4:07 PM by an anonymous user from: Tampa, Florida, United States

Got this call today stating 1700 people were randomly selected to receive free government grant money never having to pay back.

They congratulationed me for being chosen to receive 7k.to receive it they gave me a choice of direct deposit or cash at Walmart Western Union. I had to call back at (315)636-5347 and i spoke with steven smith ext235.

He was ready to set all in motion that i should have my 7k in 10 minutes time at the closest location. I needed to take with me, a picture id, my cell phone to call steven smith prior to transaction and $260.00 cash for processing fee totally refundable when they send cash back of $7,260.00. Of course the red flag went up that this was a scam.

They thought i was stupid and had me hooked. i was not allowed to use this money for gambling purposes, but ok to pay off bills with it.

He called me from (253)210-6001 on my caller id. add this phone number to your listings.

  • April 27, 2015 at 8:29 PM by an anonymous user from: Frederick, Maryland, United States

I'm glad i Googled this . I knew it sounded crazy when they ask me to send 150 dollars through Western Union. Yeah I'm always applying for grants and I really thought I had one, but I guess that was a big old scam. And the number that called me was 2068553072.

    • December 3, 2015 at 1:32 PM by an anonymous user from: Ashburn, Virginia, United States

My scenario from Western Union scam. I remember she said that I won 50k from Western Union and all I have to do is give them $500.00, so I can get my 50k; lol I told her just take the $500 out of the 50k that I just won, then just send me the 20k and you can keep the remaining 29,500k lol. So I hurriedly call the Western Union 1800 number, asking them about this give-away. REMEMBER NOTHING IS FREE. GOOD LUCK

  • March 12, 2015 at 5:27 PM by an anonymous user from: Charlevoix, Michigan, United States

I got a call at my work phone number, I asked them how thy got it and the lady, who sounded like a robot told me I was selected from a group of 1700 people in the USA, by a demographic survey, because I had no criminal record, she gave me a grant ID number and the number to call back was 202-580-8241.

I called back as a blocked number and at first the guy said, how come your number does't show up in my caller ID, I said I was calling from work and he said sure, thank you and he hung up. I called back 10 minutes later, he asked the same thing and I said the same thing, this time he asked me my phone number and I gave him a fake one, then he asked me to go get my money at walmart and to call him back on my way to the store, so he could send me the money, I had to deposit 260 dollars so they could verify my identity, what a bunch of BS.

Then I quickly came to google 7K government grant end even I suspected it was a scam, now im for sure, no one is going to give you free money- specially the government. I will call him back tomorrow and see how far he gets.

  • January 28, 2015 at 11:01 PM by an anonymous user from: San Jose, California, United States

Received same kind of call from blocked number. Gave me 206-855-3329 as a number to call to verify/complete $7000 grant process.

The lady told me I needed to get a re-loadable cash card at Walgreen or similar place to receive "cash" payment and the Federal Reserve Bank would deposit to it. But I had to deposit $200 on the card for some unexplained reason.

When I told her it sounded like a scam she said: "then don't do it and loose your money". Both people had eastern European accents. Needless to say I didn't follow through.

I did not call the number in fear it was some kind of scam. I was told to go to Western Union for a wire transfer. My phone # uses 925 area code if you want to catch these guys.

Got a call from a blocked number and a woman with a thick accent named Mary saying that that she was from the Federal Grant department.

She advised that I was being awarded 9k due to me paying my bills on time and having good credit. She gave me ID code and advised me to call the 202 number. I called the Nebraska and a man with a thick accent again by the name of John advised that I had been awarded but stated that in order for me to receive the grant that I had to purchase a green dot prepaid card and put 290$.

And then asked why and he have me some bullsh*t story. I asked for his federal ID and he said that he couldn't give that information out. I told him that he was full of sh*t and I hung up. BEWARE THIS IS A SCAM...

  • October 4, 2014 at 12:59 PM by an anonymous user from: Edgewater, Florida, United States

First I received a call from an unknown number saying I was to receive $9000.00 for a government grant.

The man on the phone, who I could hardly understand due to his strong accent, gave me my "grant ID number" and told me to call 202-657-6443 and give them the ID number in return for the directions on how to receive my "$9000.00."

Called the number and was told I could either have them wire transfer the money to my checking account or go to a Walgreens or CVS. I opted for Walgreens, I was suppose to get a Greendot money card, put $280 on it, and then they would give me the tracking number for me to go pick my "$9000.00" up from a Walmart...WTF, didn't make much sense to me. They didn't actually tell me I was suppose to give them the grenndot card number but I'm sure once I told them I had the card with the money on it they would ask for the card number.

I think I will call back and tell them I have the card with the money on it to see what they are going to say, it has me curious!

Another number you may want to add to your list (202) 738-1548; they think everyone is stupid, they need to get a life and earn their money the legal way!

(This is for those whom think their going to get away with it: Thief is not a way to live, you will always be looking over their shoulders.)

  • September 16, 2014 at 12:58 PM by an anonymous user from: Perry Hall, Maryland, United States

Just received a call from (312) 957 5687 about the $7K grant that the United States government selected me to receive.(Yeah right?)

Initially I hung up and the d**n auto dialer rang back! I figured I had to entertain the call for a few seconds to stop the call the back, so I answered. This dude said my name...I was immediately intrigued.

How does he know my name? First he gave a run down of grants and what they are and how you don't pay them back, blah, blah, blah. Then I was read a list of stores that I could go to receive the money and asked to me tell which was closer to my residence. I said 7 Eleven. I was then told to go to the 7 Eleven and call them at that number and I would get additional instruction. I replied that 7 Eleven doesn't dispense that much cash EVER and they told me I would be directed to purchase a GreenDot Moneycard and the funds would be transferred to that card. I took down my "grant approval #" and was asked how long before I go to the store, I said 20 minutes...NOT!

He finally thanked me and hung up. I went back to eating my lunch. Im not doing that c**p! This is ridiculous! Just an FYI, the US government doesn't call you and give away money, duh...

The call came from Chicago and hunting a little further it originated from Puerto Rico.

  • July 18, 2014 at 4:03 PM by an anonymous user from: Rocky Mount, North Carolina, United States

First phone call I got was for 10,000 and the second was for 9,000. They said that a survey had selected 1500 people to receive a free government grant. The survey was for people that paid their taxes, had no criminal record, and had not filed for bankruptcy within the previous six months.

Then they gave me a confirmation number WZ1015 and told me to call 202-657-6443 immediately and give whoever answered the confirmation number. After calling the number I was instructed to go to Walgreens and get a Walgreens card that they could put the money into because if they just gave me the money the state would tax it (which is b.s in Washington, I guess they didn't know that).

Don't know the rest because that was when my curiosity ran out and I hung up. The callers can't speak English very well and they can't tell you what government office they are working for or representing. I thought it was pretty funny actually.

Not the fact that they are scamming people for money but the whole thing is so silly that it made me wonder where it was going. I did not give them any information at all, just listened.

  • July 3, 2014 at 11:00 AM by an anonymous user from: Atlanta, Georgia, United States

I was told I would receive 7k in 30 minutes if I went to Walgreens and purchase a GreenDot card and put 200 on it.
