Thousands of EBay users flocked to social networking and other websites today complaining about not being able to sign into their EBay accounts, do bids or do other basic tasks that they do every day on Ebay's website. Most wanted to know if these technical problems were as a result of hackers illegally gaining access to EBay's systems or servers?
Well, according to EBay’s System Announcements page a scheduled maintenance is due tomorrow September 4.

The eBay system will be undergoing general maintenance from approximately 22:00 PT (10pm) to 22:15 PT (10:15pm) on Thursday, September 4th. During this maintenance period, certain site features may be intermittently unavailable or slow.
And, according to the same page, Ebay is aware of the problem being experienced by some of their users. Please see the annoucement below posted by EBay on their website.

Today, some eBay users are experiencing issues when signing in to the site. Based on our initial investigation, this appears to be the result of technical issues that occurred during scheduled server maintenance. It is only impacting a portion of our users; most eBay users are unaffected. We’re working to resolve this issue quickly and will continue to keep our customers updated. We apologize for any inconvenience to our users.

Earlier today, some eBay users experienced issues when visiting our site. The issue has been resolved and site functionality has now been restored. Based on our initial investigation, this was the result of a technical issue that occurred during scheduled server maintenance.
While many users were unaffected, we know any interruption for our users is frustrating. And we know that some of our affected sellers may have questions about their selling activity; in the coming days, we will provide them with additional information separately on possible fee adjustments and related seller protections.
We’re very sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused to the buyers or sellers involved.
Based on the annoucements made by EBay, the technical problems were not due to hackers gaining access to their servers or systems, but seems to be related to the scheduled maintenance for September 4.
