IRS Telephone Scam Calls from Number - 415-234-0491

If you have received phone calls from telephone number 415-234-0491, in which the caller claims he/she is from the IRS and have important information about your taxes or that there was an error on your taxes and you owe a substantial amount of money. Please do not give them your information because it is a scam call.

Remember, the IRS will never contact you via telephone and ask you for your personal / financial information and ask you to make payment. They will send notices by postal mail and give tax payers enough time to respond and dispute claims.

Again, if you have received a call from 415-234-0491 or any other phone numbers claiming that you owe the IRS and you are required to make payment or else, it is a scam.

Always call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 to verify any IRS phone calls, emails or other messages that you have received. For other offices, look up the name in the phone directory and call the listed number, instead of the number in the message.

Please report any suspicious phone calls to the police or your service provider.

I received the same message from NikkI Johnson but the number seems to have changed - the number on my caller ID was 415 234 0513. When I told the man on the other end of the line that I would never give personal or banking information over the phone and I was going to report him immediately, he started begging me not to - saying that he was "poor" and "what else was he supposed to do".

    This is a scam!

I prepare tax returns and so far 3 of my clients have received such calls. I tell my clients to troll them. Basically acting scared and to keep questioning them.

These people are so uninformed that they are trying to get back taxes from 2008 thru 2012. What they don't know is that tax years 2008 thru 2011 are closed because of the statute of limitations. I tell them to go ahead and arrest me.

I even had one client tell them that she was in jail during those years. It is so much fun to s***w with them if you have the time and want a good laugh. I also tell them that it is phone harassment and I will have their phone number disconnected.

Sometimes I will just call them to relieve any stress just for the h**l of it. Have some fun and record the call. Check out youtube for some of these calls.

I got a voicemail early this morning from an "IRS Officer" saying it was urgent and time sensitive. First tip was that it was a computer voice. Second, was that there was no toll-free number to call. I figured it was a scam. Yep.

  • April 16, 2015 at 7:41 AM by an anonymous user from: Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas, United States

I received a message that sounded automated saying it was Officer NikkI Johnson.

It said the message was time sensitive and I should not ignore the message. I should call back before they take action against me.

    • April 16, 2015 at 8:08 AM by info

      It is scam.

  • April 13, 2015 at 3:20 PM by an anonymous user from: Austin, Texas, United States

I got a phone call from this number and was told that I owe the IRS $4998.32 and that if I had an attorney, I needed to let them know because I was about to be arrested today for unpaid back taxes.

I asked for his name, and said it was Barry Jackson (he sounded asian and had a very strong accent - it was obvious at that moment, that this person wouldn't have been named "Barry" at birth).

I stayed quiet, trying to listen to the background and the one I could hear, also had the same accent, then "Barry" said "hello!", and I immediately said "I'll contact my local IRS office" and he said, "you can do what you want but I need to know now, how you're going to pay", I then asked for his employee ID number and he said 8989...and hung up.

I then chatted with an IRS representative at the IRS website and was told about this scam. If you read this, please beware and don't panick like I did when I heard the words "I'm calling from the IRS!"

  • April 13, 2015 at 11:32 AM by an anonymous user from: Manitowoc, Wisconsin, United States

I received a call from this number this morning saying I owned back taxes and if I didn't pay them $1,000 today that I would be arrested. They said I could not disconnect the call or I would be arrested and I needed to go to my bank and withdrawl the funds with them on the phone so they could tell me where to send it.

I reported them to the IRS on www.tigta.gov. I tried calling the number back to tell them I know it is fraud and they have been reported but they will not answer now.

Both of my parents are deceased and my brothers and I are maintaining their home until we decide when to sell.

They were meticulous in bookkeeping/bill paying/taxes, etc. A Nicki Johnson, claiming to be an IRS agent with an urgent message about fines/penalties if we did not contact her immediately! Of course, we did not call, but rather looked up this web site about scams.

  • April 10, 2015 at 12:18 PM by an anonymous user from: Bridgewater, New Jersey, United States

I received this phone call from this number.

I tried the IRS number, given; BUT, it doesn't give you an option to report fraudulent phone calls.

I found the BELOW on another web site.

If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS and asking for money, here’s what you should do:

If you know you owe taxes or think you might owe, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS workers can help you with a payment issue.

If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to believe that you do, report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) at 1.800.366.4484 or at www.tigta.gov.

You can file a complaint using the FTC Complaint Assistant; choose “Other” and then “Imposter Scams.” If the complaint involves someone impersonating the IRS, include the words “IRS Telephone Scam” in the notes.

  • April 3, 2015 at 2:05 PM by an anonymous user from: Newark, New Jersey, United States

Thank you. Received a phone message today from "IRS" at the above number. It was a recorded voice so was suspicious right away and googled the number.

These people are our over seas.

They are fun to play with when you call their bluff.

They tried to tell me that i was getting arrested for not paying my taxes. They wanted my credit card so i gave them a bogus number and at the end i said f-u.

  • April 2, 2015 at 4:24 PM by an anonymous user from: Bloomfield, New Jersey, United States

    These creeps called me again.

I called back told the person on the line that "I reported the phone number to the IRS, and I will report the number to the police", "

Told them never to call me again." they called back 2 minutes later from an unlisted number he said to me "hey son of a b**ch I will call you daily again, and again, son of a b**ch, from private number. These people are utter garbage. I have filed a complaint with the IRS concerning 415-234-0491 from IRS NikkI Johnson.

I hope they catch these guys and make their lives h**l.

  • April 2, 2015 at 12:57 PM by an anonymous user from: Bloomfield, New Jersey, United States

received 3 calls from this number on 4/2/2015. Said they were the IRS and I had to call them back before they take action against me. • April 2, 2015 at 9:13 AM by an anonymous user from: Downers Grove, Illinois, United States

Got the call this morning. So glad to see everyone else's comments. DON'T Call these people!

  • March 31, 2015 at 11:27 AM by an anonymous user from: Atlanta, Georgia, United States

Received a call twice today. Obviously a scam because a "speak and spell" style voice claiming to be a real person left the voice mail. Still glad to have the validation that it is, indeed, a scam. Thanks!

  • March 30, 2015 at 12:49 PM by an anonymous user from: Spring, Texas, United States

I got a call from this number today saying it was "officer Nick Johnson" from the IRS with very "time sensitive information". I knew it had to be a scam but its good to have confirmation of that.

  • March 24, 2015 at 4:24 PM by an anonymous user from: Los Angeles, California, United States

Thank you so much for this website. I'm a grown man who was literally reduce to tears when I saw it. I had to deal with the IRS when I was fresh out of college and they are no joke. What a relief to know that this is a scam! Thanks again!

  • March 24, 2015 at 11:06 AM by an anonymous user from: Newark, New Jersey, United States

Today, 03/24/15, I received a recorded call from 415 234-0491 saying it was the IRS, that I should retain an attorney and respond to the above number timely or they will take action.

    • March 24, 2015 at 12:53 PM by info

It is a scam. The IRS will never contact you via telephone and ask you to call back a number. Also, they will never ask you to make payment over the phone using your credit card, via Prepaid debit card, via Western, MoneyGram or from other money transfer service.

  • March 23, 2015 at 6:24 PM by an anonymous user from: Aptos, California, United States

I have received repeated phone calls from this number! Sometime two in one day claiming they are the IRS. It's a recording and I've never spoken to anyone. It's annoying and makes you wonder for a few minutes. But obviously I now it's not the IRS.

  • March 20, 2015 at 10:26 AM by an anonymous user from: Atlanta, Georgia, United States

Someone from 415-234-0491 has called and left messages requesting that I call back. I suspected it was a scam of some kind and really thought they would stop calling.

I have now blocked the number. They have called 2x's a day for the last 3 days. I was suspicious because my husband is a business owner and any request from IRS always came via the mail with an 800# to call.

  • March 18, 2015 at 5:17 PM by an anonymous user from: New York, United States

I received a call here in US (within the past couple weeks). I think our only precautionary measure are websites like this.

Same B.S., "Nicky Johnson...". Thanks to sites like this any rise in blood pressure I may have felt was quickly decreased.

I will not file complaints. I give up. I surrender and raise my white flag. I've fought so hard and filed complaint after complaint to the FTC every time a scammer called.

Clearly, the DoNotCall List and outlets like the FTC cannot stop "spoofing". These spoofers laugh at us. So, as I posted on the FTC website (which by the way, cites this exact spoof call here, ( consumer.ftc.gov /blog/irs-calling), we need "Unlimited Call Blocking" as a BASE feature from any carrier, landline or mobile.

Just start blocking calls, and then cite scammer spoof calls to websites like this. Id only note the approximate time and general area (scammers read these too -so I only cite a general time). I use a VPN to post, so I'll play spoof hardball too! I just don't want to "pay", to block calls!

Read the link I cite above. An FTC Rep says the IRS receives calls, as well as the offices of the FTC from scammers! Don't waste your time filing complaints! Demand FREE call blocking from your carrier, and be proactive by posting to websites like this after you receive a scam call.

    F*** YOU "Nicky Johnson"!

  • March 14, 2015 at 10:41 AM by an anonymous user from: Rosenberg, Texas, United States

I have been getting calls for 415-800-3082 & 415-234-0491 regarding my taxes, and them wanting to take legal action against me if I don't return the call.

I have not returned the call, and was planning on doing it on Monday morning.

I'm glad that I researched the number first. I will be calling the IRS instead on Monday morning.

    Thanks for sharing the information.
