Malicious/Virus Emails Hit the Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE)
The Jamaica Stock Exchange(JSE) is advising members of the public to look out for fake, fraudulent or malicious email messages that appear as if they came from them. The email messages are being sent by cybercriminals, and contain links that go to phishing websites that steal online account credentials, personal and financial information. The email messages also have links that go to malicious websites that will trick visitors into downloading viruses, spyware and other malware disguised as legitimate software that will infect their computers or mobile devices. Also, the email messages may contain malicious attachments that will infect the recipients' computers with viruses and malware if they attempt to open them. It is important that the online users know that, not because an email message appears as if it came from a legitimate organization, means it was sent by that same organization. Cybercriminals can send out fake or malicious email messages to their potential victims and use a technique called email spoofing to change the "From" address of the email message, to make the email message appear as if it was sent from a legitimate organization, a friend or family member.
Here is an example:
Cybercriminals can send an email message from a Yahoo email account, and change the “From” address to the president@white.gov, so the recipient thinks the email came from the White House, when it was actually sent from the Yahoo email account. Although the email message appear as if it came from the White House, it doesn’t mean the White House email servers or network have been hacked.
The Jamaica Stock Exchange says the public should forward email messages purporting to come from them, especially those that ask recipients to click on a link or open an attachment, to communications@jamstockex.com and/or iseitgroup@lamstockex.com, to verify the authenticity of the email messages.

NOTICE: FRAUDULENT EMAILS It has come to the Jamaica Stock Exchange's attention that members of the public have been receiving emails circulated as originating from JSE and from addresses associated with the Stock Exchange, purporting to inform persons about "Accumulated Dividends on your Portfolio".
Jamaica Stock Exchange wishes to advise stakeholders in the financial sector and the general public that these emails DO NOT originate from the Stock Exchange, and that the JSE has not disseminated any instructional messages to the public.
Importantly, persons in receipt of such messages should not proceed to open or execute any program contained therein, as we are advised that these emails have attachments which may contain malicious software.
