"The 4th Gulf and Middle East and British Multinational Oil and Gas Company Summit" Lottery Scams
Online users are advised to delete e-mails like the one below and not follow the instructions in them, which claim that they are winners of the “Exp 2020 DUBAI, UAE - The 4th Gulf and Middle East Oil and Gas Summit, and British Multinational Oil and Gas Company” lottery or promotion. The fraudulent e-mails are phishing scams that are being sent by lottery scammers or cybercriminals to trick their potential victims into sending them their personal information and subsequently sending money, by claiming that they have won thousands of dollars in a so-called lottery or promotion.
This scam is similar to other lottery scams, where the lottery scammers ask their potential victims to send them money, which they will claim is for taxes, processing fees or some other fees, before they can receive their lottery winnings or prizes. And, once the scammers have received the money sent by their victims, they will disappear and an attempt to trick other potential victims, or sometimes, attempt to scam the same victims by telling them some bogus stories.
