Microsoft Account Upgrade Mailbox Quota Phishing Scams

Microsoft users, please delete email messages like the one below, which claim that your mailboxes have reached their quota or your mailboxes have run out of space. This is because the email messages are phishing scams. The phishing or fake email messages have a link that goes to a phishing website or fake Microsoft website that steal email account credentials. Once the email account credentials are stolen they will be sent to the cybercriminals behind the scam who will the same information to gain access to the email accounts, hijack and use them fraudulently.

Sent: Wednesday, April 26, 2017 8:11 PM

Subject: ATTENSION!! EMAIL USER!!!

Dear Email Owner

Your mailbox quota is full this may cause your mailbox so Impaired or you may no longer receive more More email to continue using your mailbox, you will immediate upgrade your mailbox with Amount. This service is free.

Upgrade mailbox quota here

Once the upgrade is complete, your email box will work effective.

Microsoft users should never click on a link to sign int their accounts. They should always go directly to www.outlook.com, www.hotmail.com or www.live.com and sign into their accounts instead. Once they have signed in, they will be notified if their mailboxes are full or have run out of space.
