Warning! Child Pornography Videos or Pictures Must Not Be Shared on Social Media
Do not share pornography pictures or videos of a child on social media, even with good intentions of finding the perpetrator and his/her victim, because you can be arrested. You can also expose the child to shame and victimization. If you have received pornography pictures or videos of children and share them, you can be charged for the distribution of the same. If you receive these photos or videos, you are urged not to share them. What you should do is to report them to your local law enforcer or the police.
Child pornography is the exploitation of children for sexual stimulation. It may be produced with the direct involvement or sexual assault of a child.
Recently, a child pornography video depicting a young girl and an adult man began spreading to thousands on social media. The disturbing video was circulated with a message asking people to share or send the video to as many people as possible in hope of finding the perpetrator and his victim.
I know that online users have unintentionally distributed this child pornography video for the sole purpose of identifying the victim and the suspect, but remember, that is not the right way to go about it. The right thing to do is to notify the authorities or police so that they can quickly take action
The problem with sharing the video is that every time it is shared and viewed, the victim is exposed to more shame and victimization. You do not only create a viral video but a viral victim. While this is done in an attempt to locate the perpetrator, you are still possessing and disseminating child pornography which is a crime.
Remember, although we want the criminal to pay for his crime, we have to remember the victim, because this can have a disastrous effect on her life. Because of the fear of embarrassment and ridicule, the child may suffer from some forms of depression, which may take months or years to recover from, or the child may commit suicide.
