The scam, which claims the recipients' payment was unsuccessful or is on hold, is being sent by scammers who are attempting to steal their potential victims' personal and financial information by asking them to call fake AT&T telephone number 205 287 0227.

I got this text message on my cell phone. I called the number. Recording came on that it was an invalid number.

Got this message today. I knew I had just received messages that payments went through just fine....but I still had a moment of pause. So glad I looked online. It was a local area code so that tipped me off. ATT doesn’t use a local number....their messages would never include a local call back number.
