5 Niches that Often Need Cybersecurity Measures

Cybersecurity is something virtually all modern companies need. That is because almost all companies now have an online presence. Only very rarely will you find a business that does not engage in online activity, including setting up and running their own website.

If you have a company that’s active online in any capacity, you need robust cybersecurity measures. If you don’t have them in place, hacker attacks become more likely. You also need to watch out for things like phishing.

While almost any company would do well to purchase advanced cybersecurity measures and put them in place, some industries need them more than others. That is because these niches make attractive targets for the many hackers that prey on unwary or unsuspecting victims. Let’s talk about five of those niches right now.

Nonprofits

Nonprofits are entities that bring in money, but they don’t retain it. Charities are nonprofits, for instance, but there are tons of other examples.

Nonprofits make great hacker targets because they collect money, even though they don’t intend to keep it for themselves. While that money is in their possession, it makes sense that some unscrupulous individuals might make an online play for it.

If you set up cybersecurity for your nonprofit, like secure logins with multiple identity-verifying measures, you should feel a lot better about holding onto that money. Eventually, you can hand it over to the worthy cause for which you collected it, but until then, you should make sure it’s safe.

Manufacturing

Manufacturing is another industry that brings in a lot of money. If you’re buying or selling machinery, that could easily mean you’re dealing with hundreds of thousands of dollars or more.

Again, the more cybersecurity measures your manufacturing company can put in place, the better you should be able to sleep at night. You may want to look into AI-integrated security measures if you work in manufacturing. Make sure to watch out for data breaches as well, since you might have some proprietary secrets that you don’t want to get out.

Financial Services

Financial entities like banks and credit unions always make prime hacking targets. These are entities that control billions of dollars and that money frequently moves around online.

If you set up cybersecurity for banking, you can protect your customer’s assets. They will always feel more comfortable trusting you with their money if they know you have the latest and most advanced cybersecurity in place.

On the other hand, if word gets out that hackers keep breaching your financial entity, customers will run in the other direction as fast as they can. A single well-publicized hacking attack can cause a publicly-traded company like a bank to crash and burn.

You should also remember that more people are going cashless these days. With the public conducting more transactions online, banks need to look for app security specifically. With people also spending money digitally through credit and debit cards, cybersecurity has become more critical than ever.

Aerospace and Defense

The aerospace and defense industries need cybersecurity, but not usually for financial matters. These are certainly niches where business entities spend tons of money for research, development, and so forth, but data breaches are what industry leaders think about more than anything else.

High-ranking officials within the defense and aerospace industries know they regularly hold treasure troves of secret documents. They need to keep a tight lid on those since it could become a national nightmare if any of it got out.

Foreign agents might try to hack into aerospace and national defense servers. If these entities don’t have the absolute best cybersecurity measures in place, these secrets can leak, and other countries might learn about America’s defensive capabilities.

The Healthcare Industry

The healthcare industry may not be one that immediately jumps to mind if you’re thinking about cybersecurity, but measures need to be in place because of privacy concerns. There are software suites with healthcare portals that many hospital networks use. If you’re a patient in that network, you can log in and see test results, pay bills, and so forth.

The problem is that sometimes, a hacker might try to access these portals to gain privileged information about the individuals who use them. They may be able to learn all the most sensitive details about your medical status, including information you might prefer the public never knows.

Businesses in any of these niches should understand that advanced cybersecurity is a necessity at this point.
