Cybercriminals are attempting to trick WhatsApp users into installing a malicious app disguised as Blue WhatsApp. The cybercriminals send a message (see below) to potential victims claiming a new version of WhatsApp is available and ask them to click on the link in the same message. The link goes to a malicious website called "whatsapp .top". The legitimate website is "whatsapp.com".

On the malicious website, visitors will be asked to download a malicious app disguised as WhatsApp Blue.
If you were tricked by the "Blue Whatsapp" scam, please remove or uninstall all unknown or suspicious apps from your mobile device. We recommend a factory reset, but this will have to be done by a tech-savvy person.
If you are sent a message asking you to click a link in order to install "Blue Whatsapp," please do not because there is no such app.

To you it may not appear to work, but it may running in the background. Check your device for suspicious apps and remove them.
