The website became operational in 2011 and the original intent was simply to provide a place for those interested in hacking and have a passion for learning to gather and share their knowledge.

Ethical hacking has become something of a fixture in the tech community as it is used to strengthen cybersecurity and to close up any loopholes and weaknesses in their programs. It is the “good” side that fights against black hat hackers looking to exploit and scam.

According to GuidedHacking, there are two common rapid learning paths to hacking and tool-oriented hacking isn’t the best way to learn because tools will simply do your job for you and you’ll learn nothing in the process. One of the easiest ways to learn is through Youtube videos where masked men give you play-by-play instructions to follow so that you can achieve certain results by utilizing premade tools.

The real or authentic way to learn is through ‘CTF’ or Capture the Flag. You’ll obviously need some background knowledge of how coding works before you jump feet-first into the world of CTF. It is labor intensive and mentally draining, but the amount of knowledge and experience you attain through these competitions will benefit any hacker in the long run. It can also be a fun and rewarding experience, especially when you factor in the fact that real-world issues have been solved by hackers who have dabbled in CTF at some point of their career.

Contrary to popular media depictions, hackers are very seldom a one-man team and CTF is proof of that. As a community and forum, GuidedHacking can help you find teammates and give you the opportunity to network with other hackers in a safe place because it is overall a shady industry and it can be hard to figure out who you can trust. When you find your team, you’ll compete with others to exploit a service for a string of text which is considered to be the flag. Then the flag is submitted for points, and the team with the most points will win. But being able to participate in CTF competitions will enhance your critical thinking skills and give you the insight to build your own tools.

At GuidedHacking, you’ll be able to find genuine nerds that simply enjoy the process of going against the machines, which is what hackers really are if you strip them down to the core. Similarly, gamers who hack games are also people who genuinely love the game that they are hacking because it’s a joy for them to deepen their understanding of the game.

GuidedHacking also provides guides on how to hack games and while it is not condoned by game developers or other gamers, it doesn’t harm anyone personally, and the users of GuidedHacking do participate in the sharing of game hacks out of pure passionate and a natural affinity to satisfy their curiosity.
