I received a phone call where the caller claimed to be from Barclays last week, saying they'd flagged up a payment they thought fraudulent to On the Beach for £1200.00 on my card STARTING with xxxx, and they had declined it! He went on to say there was also another for £0.00 to Limeuk, which they sent to my app and asked me to decline, which I did!
Same thing happened this morning for similar amount to "On the Beach" and another for £79.50 to Skiddle, again sent to my app for me to decline! I said I wasn't going onto my app with him on my phone, he said he understood and would phone back in 5 min, sure enough £79.50 was there to decline!
True to his word he phoned back with calls being recorded and all that, they were cancelling my card and going to send a new one and would put fraud protection on it, he then asked for the last 10 digits of my card, So they could add the protection, I said why do you need 10 digits of my card if you're sending a new one, I said no way was he getting 10 digits at which point he hung up!
Here's the kicker though, he had the correct first four digits of my present card but the ones I declined were on old card.
He had my address and email address and the fact he could send messages to my app is frightening!
He was very convincing so be careful what you give out over the phone!
I've been onto the fraud team at Barclays!
