Alabama Department of Revenue Scams

These scams attempt to steal personal and financial information through fake links. ALDOR does not send text messages asking for personal information.

Details the Scams

  • Text Message (SMS) Scam: Messages claim a "refund request has been approved" or ask for payments for traffic violations/toll charges, often directing to a malicious URL. These sometimes falsely reference a "Regional Bank Partnership".
  • DocuSign Email Scam: A fraudulent email uses the official Docusign platform to appear legitimate, asking to review an "Alabama Department of Revenue" document. They often originate from non-ALDOR domains.
  • Phone Scams: Criminals call posing as ALDOR, promising money back or offering rebates for economic hardship related to inflation.
  • What to Do: Do not click links, do not reply, and delete the messages immediately.
  • Verify Information: Check your actual refund status only on the official Alabama Department of Revenue website.
  • Report Scams: Suspicious activity can be reported to the Federal Trade Commission or ALDOR directly.
