771-247-9325 Abatement Adjustment Scam

Scammers are contacting potential victims from or asking them to call 771-247-9325. The scammers are pretending to be from the Abatement Adjustment office. The "Abatement Adjustment" scam is a widespread fraudulent phone and voicemail campaign where callers pose as agents from a fake government office—often called the "Abatement Adjustment Office" or "Tax Mediation and Abatement Agency" to steal personal or banking information. Most of the scam calls are from 771 area code telephone numbers.

How the Scam Works

  • The Hook: You receive a voicemail from someone (often using names like "Kelly Carter" or "Tiffany Samuels") claiming your file has "unverified items" or "missed filings".
  • The Pressure: They claim there is a limited "overlap window" for new relief programs and urge you to call a "proprietary verification line" immediately to avoid negative consequences.
  • The Goal: Once you call back, they attempt to "verify" your identity by asking for sensitive data like your Social Security number, bank account details, or credit card information.
  • The Fake Names: Scammers use professional-sounding but non-existent entities, such as:
    • Abatement Adjustment Office
    • Tax Mediation and Abatement Agency
    • Tax Review Office
    • Tax Resolution Team

Red Flags

  • Unsolicited Calls: The IRS and state tax agencies (like the Arkansas DFA) primarily communicate via postal mail (snail mail) and will never make first contact by phone, text, or social media to demand payment.
  • Vague Details: The messages are generic and do not mention specific amounts owed or your actual name.
  • Request for Immediate Payment: Real tax agencies will never ask for payment via gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency.
  • "Proprietary" Lines: Claims of a "no-wait proprietary verification line" are a common tactic to make the scam seem legitimate and exclusive.

If You Got a Call

  1. Hang Up/Delete: Do not engage with the caller or call the number back, as this confirms your line is active.
  2. Verify Independently: If you are worried about your taxes, call the official IRS line at 1-800-829-1040 or check your status directly on the IRS website.
  3. Report the Scam: Forward the details to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) or use the FTC Fraud Reporting tool.
