USPS Scam Text - Package Delivery

The USPS package delivery text scam is a "smishing" (SMS phishing) attempt where scammers send fake text messages claiming a package is held due to address issues or fees. These messages include a link to a fraudulent site designed to steal personal info or payment details. Do not click links; delete the message.

Identifying a Scam

  • Fake Link: The link does not go to USPS.com.
  • Unsolicited: You receive the text unexpectedly without signing up for updates.
  • Urgency: The text demands immediate action, often claiming a limited time to respond.
  • Sender: Texts arrive from 10-digit numbers or email addresses, not the official USPS 5-digit short code.
  • Irregular Payment Requests: The site asks for money to redeliver a package.
