Beware of "Notice to Appear in Court" Virus Email Messages

The email messages below: "Notice to Appear in Court," are fakes and have malicious attachments or links to a virus or Trojan horse that will infect the recipients' computers if they attempt to open or click on it. The messages were created to trick curious recipients into opening the malicious attachments or clicking on the malicious links, by claiming that they need to attend court. But, opening the malicious attachments or clicking on the links in the email message, will download and install a virus or Trojan horse on their computers.

Remember, opening or clicking on the attachments or links in the fake email messages will infect the recipients' computers with a virus, Trojan horse or some other malware. And, once the recipients' computers have become infected, the cybercriminals behind the fake email messages will be able to access and take control of their computers remotely from anywhere around the world. They may spy on them, use their computers to commit cybercrimes, or steal their personal and financial information.

For victims who have already clicked on the malicious links, downloaded and open the malicious file, or open the email attachments, should do a full scan of their computers with the antivirus software installed on them. The email messages and the name of the attachment may change, so be careful when clicking on links in an email message and opening email attachments. Look out for similar court email messages that may have been reworded.

    Here is another fake email message:

    "Subject: Notice to appear in court NR#9530
    Attachment: Court_Notice_Jones_Day_Wa#5837.zip

    Notice to Appear,

    Hereby you are notified that you have been scheduled to appear for your hearing that will take

    place in the court of Washington in January 19, 2014 at 10:00 am.

    Please bring all documents and witnesses relating to this case with you to Court on your hearing

    date.

    The copy of the court notice is attached to this letter.
    Please, read it thoroughly.

    Note: If you do not attend the hearing the judge may hear the case in your absence.

    Here is another fake email message:

    Some people have been deceived re this scam, always check independently of the email.
