Santander Bank Urgent Notification-Safeguard Your Account or Passcode has been Entered Incorrectly Phishing Scam

The email message below with the subject: "Urgent Notification (Safeguard Your Account)" or "Passcode has been entered incorrectly multiple times, Please login to your account," is a phishing scam. The fake email message was not sent by Santander Bank, but by cyber-criminals. Therefore, the instructions in the fake message should not be followed and the links in it should never be clicked. The links will take you to a fake Santander Bank website created by cybercriminals to trick potential victims into stealing their Santander Bank's username and password, and other personal and financial information. It is not recommended to click on a link in an email message to sign into an online account. Therefore, online users should go directly to their online account providers' websites and sign into their accounts from there.

Please ensure that you are entering your passcode correctly.

For your security we have restriced your access to our online banking system in order to safeguard your account.

We require you to complete our account verification process in order to restore access. This process should only take you a few minutes to complete and will also ensure we hold the most up to date records for you.

Every month, thousands of these email messages are sent out by scammers to trick their potential victims into stealing their username, password, financial or personal information. So, never click on link in an email message to sign into or log on to any of your online accounts.

Santander customers should always go directly to www.santander.co.uk in their web browsers and sign into their accounts from there. If there is a problem with their accounts, they will be notified after signing or logging in. Santander customers who were tricked into clicking the link in the fake email message and who have entered their usernames and passwords on the bogus Santander website that they were taken to, should change their Santander passwords immediately. And, if they are unable to change their passwords, they should contact Santander immediately.
