The text scam is being used to steal the recipients' PayPal account credentials by tricking them into clicking the link in it. The link goes to a fake PayPal website where visitors will be asked to sign in. If they attempt to do so, their PayPal account credentials will be sent to the cybercriminals behind the scam, who will use it to gain unauthorized access to their accounts and use the accounts fraudulently.
