ATT Scam Calls - How to Protect Yourself
ATT Scam Calls - How to Protect Yourself

Scam calls claiming to be from AT&T usually involve spoofed numbers offering "loyalty discounts," threatening immediate service suspension, or requesting one-time PINs to access your account. Because AT&T does not typically make unsolicited calls for special deals, you should immediately hang up and verify any claims directly.

Common AT&T Scam Tactics

  • The "Discount" Pitch: Scammers call offering massive loyalty discounts (e.g., 25% off) or free phones, then ask for a verification code sent to your phone to "complete the order".
  • Suspension Threats: An automated voice or "agent" claims your account has been flagged for a security risk or non-payment and demands immediate personal information or payment in gift cards to restore service.
  • One-Time PIN Requests: Fraudsters pretend to be from the "fraud department" and ask you to read back a verification code they just triggered to be sent to your device.

How to Protect Yourself

  • Never share codes: Treat any request for a one-time passcode or AT&T PIN as a scam. AT&T will never ask you to read back a PIN that you did not initiate.
  • Validate the source: If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and call AT&T customer service or check your official AT&T Account to see if the offer is legitimate.
  • Use defensive tools: Consider leveraging the AT&T ActiveArmor app to automatically block spam calls and filter potential fraud.
  • Report the fraud: You can submit numbers and details to the AT&T Cyber Aware resource center.
