2192490573 Scam Text Message to Call Same Telephone Number

There are fake "ATT Unsuccessful Payment" text messages like the one below that claim the recipients' payment was unsuccessful or is on hold, and ask them to call telephone number 219-249-0573. The fake messages are being sent by scammers who are attempting to steal their potential victims' personal and financial information.

I had this happen to me yesterday 07/27/2020. I couldn't understand why my payment would not go through to pay my AT&T bill because I had already paid it for July. When I recieved this text message I pressed the phone number link and it told me that my payment was declined and for me to enter my credit card number to reactivate it, I thought this can't be right, so I called AT&T directly and the customer service person said there is nothing wrong with my card and that no payment is due until Aug. So I put the number they gave into GOOGLE search and sure enough this is a total SCAM.,. So glad I listened to my gut and didn't fall for this and give them my card number.

My son is authorized user on my account and received same text on 7/26, yet I did not. I figured its because I had spotty service at my weekend spot in Lake George, MI. The thing is, on 7/25 I had updated payment info with AT&T so the msg he got seemed legit...at first. Then I got signal back and saw that I still hadn't received that text, but that AT&T had texted me a confirmation that my 7/25 payment info update had been successful. Then I called AT&T and they confirmed that no text had been generated to my son's #.

I'm in Falmouth MI (lake city) and just got the message. Your reply stood out to me because I recently have been searching for a vacation rental and one of the places was Whitmire lake.
