one of the best spam emails i've received from TV License. mMy only clue this was spam was the email address (root@smtp2.rapidns.com) and I know that my license is paid annual not month.

    • September 1, 2020 at 8:28 AM by an anonymous user from: Preston, England, United Kingdom

I received the same email an hour ago, I checked my bank account and it has gone out today. I then checked the email address and have now permanently blocked all future email.

It is scary, how the heck did they get my information.

  • August 23, 2020 at 1:35 PM by an anonymous user from: Manchester, England, United Kingdom

I also received an e-mail regarding direct debit TV Licence cancellation. Mine started with Dear Customer and continued with the line Your direct debit has been cancelled and the asked for my Bank Details. I quickly became suspicious because I do not have a direct debit account for TV

  • August 22, 2020 at 10:44 AM by an anonymous user from: Llanelli, Wales, United Kingdom

I too received an email related too direct debit having been cancelled for t.v licence, unable to collect payment and your not covered etc. Including an incorrect account number and expiry date. I knew it was Spam straight away as it was addressed to "Dear Customer" not me personally. Very cleverly done and I'm not surprised to hear people have been caught out. Google came in handy all the same to confirm my suspicions.

    • August 25, 2020 at 3:55 AM by an anonymous user from: United Kingdom

I got one too supposedly from tv license but the only difference was it was addressed to me with my name on, knew it was spam as I do t have a tv or a license,

  • August 21, 2020 at 6:48 AM by an anonymous user from: Southampton, England, United Kingdom

HI I just had an email but it used my email address not dear customer. It also had all the links to a real page for changing bank address ect but upon calling them no one answered for checking direct debits but answered the check bank details so beware. The only thing that really gave it away was the sender address tv licence send theirs with a do not reply address.

  • August 20, 2020 at 4:56 AM by an anonymous user from: Stockport, England, United Kingdom

  • August 20, 2020 at 4:51 AM by an anonymous user from: Brierley Hill, England, United Kingdom

Had one yesterday and another today, knew it was a scam straight away because I don't pay by direct debit. The licence number and customer number were wrong also the TV licence office don't start emails with "dear client" I've warned friends and family because this did look more convincing than others I've received.

  • August 19, 2020 at 2:22 PM by an anonymous user from: Leeds, England, United Kingdom

Yes it’s a scam. A bona fide email from TV Licensing includes the last part of your postcode (so that you know it IS from TV Licensing). They show your license number (different to the one in fake emails), the correct expiry date AND shows your surname as it appears on the License.

  • August 19, 2020 at 9:23 AM by an anonymous user from: Birmingham, England, United Kingdom

  • August 19, 2020 at 6:52 AM by an anonymous user from: Ipswich, England, United Kingdom

Received email today from root@smtp2.rapidns.com. The same scam: "Tomorrow is your last chance to remain licensed. You won't be covered if you let your licence expire. As we couldn't take the latest payment from your bank account, this amount will also need to be paid when you set up your new Direct Debit". But I know that I paid in march for the whole year, so it shouldn't be any problem. Then I googled it...

  • August 19, 2020 at 5:22 AM by an anonymous user from: United Kingdom

  • August 14, 2020 at 3:32 PM by an anonymous user from: Loughborough, England, United Kingdom

I received one email yesterday from TV License-Services (root@smpt2.rapidns.com) to tell me that they had not been able to collect my latest Direct Debit. No details of licence number. Guessed it was a scam as bank account showed DD referred to had gone out fine.

Today I received a second email from root@smpt2.rapidns.com (this time using the official TVLicensing logo, saying it was from TVLicensing UK), saying that my Direct Debit had been cancelled and I had to follow the link to set up a new DD. This email gave a Licence Number and Expiry Date (both incorrect.) The ‘Message ID’ gave the same reference number as yesterday’s email. Scam!

    • August 15, 2020 at 8:16 AM by an anonymous user from: Bristol, England, United Kingdom

3 emails from these people today. Looks plausible until everything is down the right-hand side of the page!

  • August 14, 2020 at 12:48 PM by an anonymous user from: Andover, England, United Kingdom

I received an email from TV licencing today informing me that my direct debit payment had failed and I would need to update with card details. AFTER I had given my details I spoke to my daughter who advised me to check again as I never have an issue usually. To my horror this was from root@smpt2.rapidns.com so I have now had to cancel my card and inform fraud department of this.

Please don't be like me! check twice before given your details away.
