Major Red Flags of Fake Alerts

• Urgent Threat Demands: Phrases like "Your device is infected with 5 viruses" or countdown timers trying to scare you into making quick decisions.
• Requests to Call a Number: Legitimate McAfee software will never display a popup demanding that you call a phone number for malware removal.
• Demands for Remote Control: Scammers will ask you to download software so they can access your computer.
• Browser-Based Presentation: The alerts show up inside your web browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari) or as Windows toast notifications carrying a strange web URL at the bottom, rather than inside an official McAfee application window.

How to Remove the Fake Popups Instantly

To stop these alerts, you must revoke the notification permissions you inadvertently granted to the scam website.

For Google Chrome

1. Click the three vertical dots in the top right corner and open Chrome Settings.
2. Click Privacy and security, then choose Site settings.
3. Scroll down and click Notifications.
4. Look under the "Allowed to send notifications" section.
5. Find any suspicious or unrecognized websites, click the three dots next to them, and select Remove or Block.

For Microsoft Edge

1. Click the three horizontal dots in the top-right corner and choose Settings.
2. Select Cookies and site permissions from the left menu, then click Notifications.
3. Look closely at the URL displayed at the bottom of the fake popups when they appear.
4. Locate that specific domain in your Allow list, click the three dots next to it, and click Remove or Block.

2. Click on the Websites tab and select Notifications from the left column.
3. Review the right-hand panel, select the malicious or unrecognized websites, and change their status to Deny.

• If you called the number or gave remote access: Disconnect your internet connection immediately. Download a reputable, independent malware scanner to check your system, or take your computer to a verified local professional.
• If you provided financial information: Contact your credit card issuer or bank immediately to freeze your cards, monitor your statements, and dispute any fraudulent transactions.
• Report the Scam: Forward any fraudulent emails or screenshots of the scam using the McAfee brand directly to scam@mcafee.com
