Spam Bot in Google Analytics

I noticed large traffic from a spam bot at, which shows in the "Top Referrals" section when looking at Google Analytics. These bots are not hitting my site at all but rather using my Google Universal Analytics (UA) code and hitting Google directly and pushing their website URL in the page variable. How to Stop Spam Bot

The URLs go back to the website run by spammers selling fake traffic as a service. You can try to setup a filter in Google Analytics however that's going to be a lot of work. Best way to get rid of this is to setup view filters in Google Analytics Universal.

Setup View Filters in Google Analytics Universal

  • Click the Admin icon (lower left)
  • Select Filter (in right most column)
  • Select Add a filter
  • Choose custom filter, exclude from Request URL. Then build regex to remove the offending sites.
