The email message: "A new fax has arrived," is a fake and contains a malicious attachment that will infect your computer with a virus or Trojan horse if you open it. The email message will attempt to trick the recipients into believing that they have received a fax, and they can open the attachment to view it.

This malicious email message has an attachment called IncomingFax.zip, which contains the malicious Trojan horse file IncomingFax.exe. Attempts to open this file will infect your computer with a Trojan horse or virus.

When we scanned the file IncomingFax.exe, the following threats were detected:

  • Win32:Malware-gen
  • Trojan.GenericKD.1494772
  • W32/Trojan.HING-8632
  • Trojan.DownLoad3.31401

Once your computer has become infected with this malicious Trojan horse, the cybercriminals behind this email message will be able to access and take control of your computer remotely from anywhere around the world. They may spy on you, use your computer to commit cybercrimes, or steal your personal and financial information.

Now, if you have already opened this malicious attachment IncomingFax.exe, please do a full scan of your computer with the antivirus software installed on it. The name of the attachment may change, so be careful when opening email attachments.

    I have received an email with the

    Subject line: fax from " 61 2 2459 9362" - 18 page(s)

    After clicking on the email there is an attached file and this information:

    Fax Message (Caller: 61 2 2459 9362)
    Date: 2014-05-01 09:26:38 (UTC).
    Pages: 18
    Reference number: 0F556675418103318757.

    I believe this to also be a Trojan!
