The Newtown Artesian Water Company is warning customers to ignore fraudulent robocalls directing them to pay by calling the fraudulent and fake customer service phone nunber: 1-800-213-0432.
"These calls were not made by Newtown Artesian Water Company and are a scam. Please do not call 1-800-213-0432 or make any payments in response to these calls," the company posted.
"We take the security of our customers very seriously. Upon discovering this incident, we immediately took action to stop the compromise and have notified local law enforcement and state and federal authorities," the company said.
The same telephone number is also linked to a WM Supercenter text scam.
How the Scam Works
- The Tactic: Scammers are using automated robocalls to demand immediate water bill payments.
- The Fake Number: The fraudulent calls direct customers to make payments by calling 1-800-213-0432.
- The Reality: These calls are not from the Newtown Artesian Water Company. The company has confirmed that this is a scam, has stopped the initial system compromise, and has notified local, state, and federal law enforcement authorities.

If you receive one of these calls, do not rely on the phone number provided in the robocall message and do not make any payments.

- Contact your bank or credit card company right away to report the fraudulent transaction and secure your account.
- File a complaint with the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- File a complaint with the FBI via the Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov.
