Spamming - Adware
Hbpix is a malicious ad-generating program or app called an adware. It is actually not a virus. This program or piece of software is designed with one purpose in mind, to generate ad revenue for its owners. To do this, it bombards its victims’ with various advertisements, especially malicious ones. It displays annoying pop-up and pop-unders advertisements that disturb your normal browsing sessions. Hbpix can inject advertisements on every website you visit. It can also redirect your browser to sponsored pages. What is worse, it can pause your online videos for commercial breaks. The Hbpix adware is a menace. It will cause your browser to freeze and crash frequently. It may display malicious advertisements that download a virus directly on your computer or take you to a phishing website that steals online account credentials, personal and financial information.
The Hbpix adware infects your computer via free software or apps (freeware), spam email attachments, or torrents. Software developers often attach extra apps or programs(adware) to the installation files of free programs. These additional apps or programs are often annoying due to the pop-up messages they display. So, be careful of what you allow on your computer. I've had this file download a number of times, but I delete it before it seems to execute anything - that is, I'm not getting ads and popups, interrupted or slow browsing, or any of the expected results. But the file keeps wanting to download. How can I prevent the download through a browser (Chrome) on Windows 10? Thanks!
I had the same issue. With Chrome you can adjust the settings so that you are asked each time you download something where you want to save it. I've turned that on in the short term because I can manually cancel the download - hopefully, this will stop it downloading again while I figure out more about getting rid of it off my computer and stopping it from happening again.
You will have to stop visiting the websites that are attempting to download the file. Those websites show advertisements that use that file.
